It really was amazing to see the last piece of the puzzle in person that made the album that’s changed my life. I’ve been where the cover for Ziggy Stardust was taken and now the outfit Bowie was wearing on it. Strangely, even though I was separated from it via a pane of glass, it’s enough. Obviously a fan would like to be closer, but this is the closest I’m ever going to get to him, and even though I would give anything to see him, it’s enough.
It was the only costume to be led down in the whole exhibition. I guess it’s because Ziggy was the only character Bowie had the consciously kill. Bowie was becoming Ziggy, and Ziggy was becoming Bowie. Every other character was just a part, a role to play, a facade, whereas this one, well, sometimes the man can become the mask he is wearing and forget the person who was actually wearing it.
